深空网是美帝航天局跟踪和数据捕获办公室主持下,由加利福尼亚工学院喷气推进实验室设计、管理而建立起来的。在40～50年代,喷气推进实验室主要为美陆军研制导弹测量和引导设备,从而发展了无线电遥测系统,建立了喷气推进实验室的 MiCROLOCK地面站。此站于1958年1月收到了美帝第一颗卫星“探险者”!
