The first generation of programmable logic devices(PLDs) allowed you to pack five or ten TTL devices into one package. The latest programmable devices, FPGA, can replace about 40 to 400 small-scale integrated circuits. The paper introduces the basic architecture and main perfermance on four types of programmable gate arrays, and the programming technology by which you can design your circuits with these chips. |
